About ASMP

The American Society of Media Photographers is the premier trade association for publication photographers and imaging professionals. It is the leader in promoting photographers' rights, providing education in business practices, producing business publications for photographers, and connecting purchasers with professional photographers. Founded in 1944, ASMP is an extended community of nearly 7,000 members and 39 chapters, offering photographers a means to share knowledge, address challenges, and celebrate achievements. Membership in ASMP is a credential recognized world-wide as a commitment to professionalism, quality, ethics, and proven experience.

The ASMP Philadelphia chapter is one of the largest and most active, holding up to 10 programs a year, including our long-standing annual juried member show, Focus Philadelphia. In a highly active professional and educative region, we conduct programs presented by regional and national experts that keep our members on the cusp of knowledge the changing profession.  These programs offer our members the knowledge they need to understand how photography is evolving, how the market is changing, and how to grow their businesses. Our education programs offer insight and proven strategies and techniques to established photographers, and help support students and emerging photographers as they develop professional business practices.  

Our Local Partners are instrumental in helping our chapter provide support and resources to our members. The partnerships we have cultivated with local businesses and institutions help us reach a wider range of photographers of many experience levels, and extend our breadth of knowledge and opportunities.
